Theodore Roosevelt (TR) Mountain
This destination lies off any developed and mapped trail system; the use and understanding of GPS and/or map and compass is highly recommended. When traveling off-trail you will experience hazards not realized on a trail, expect more difficult and varying conditions and always lean toward safety as a priority.
Primary Trailhead: From the intersection of Route 73 and Route 86 in Lake Placid follow Route 73 toward Keene. Continue to Adirondack Loj Road on the right. Continue to the end at the hiker parking area.
TR is one of the Adirondack 100 Highest Mountains. From the parking lot follow the hiking trail to Marcy Dam. This initial trail is by far one of the busiest if not the busiest in the Adirondacks. From the dam continue to follow the VanHoevenberg Trail toward Mount Marcy. After an additional 1.1 miles of easy hiking the trail will begin to climb steep and steady toward Indian Falls. As the trail flattens out just before you reach the intersection for Tabletop Mountain look for a faint herd path on the right. TR Mountain is right above you at roughly 0.25 miles away. The herd path is getting a bit more developed and much easier to follow, but still difficult to locate. If you cannot find the herd path, that is OK the summit isn’t all that far away and chances are you will come across it on the way up, but surely on the summit. There are limited views from the summit area, but just below the summit there are decent views of Tabletop Mountain.
