Noonmark - Summit Crag

  • Route 73, Keene Valley
  • info@lakeplacid.com

A small, high quality crag atop Noonmark Mountain. This area makes for a long, though worthwhile hike in, followed by a variety of routes put up by the legendary Fritz Weissner.

How to get there

The Stimson Trail starts on the Ausable Club property. Park in lot near Route 73 or in the lot across the way from Roaring Brook Falls. Either rappel or scramble down to the right of the trail towards the base of the cliff on a faint path just before the summit.

Rock climbing

For those looking for a dramatic alpine location and less traveled lines, the summit cliffs on Noonmark are the crag to see. Due to the alpine environment, chalk is discouraged by local practice. Relatively short but beautiful lines, require nothing more than a standard trad rack and single rope.

Be courteous to hikers, and inspect your anchors thoroughly before weighting them.

To protect peregrine falcons during their nesting season, the DEC will close some climbing routes. The Department of Conservation balances the needs of Peregrine falcons and Adirondack rock climbing.
