Mirror Lake

Much of the shoreline of this in-town lake is private or owned by local inns, storefronts, and hotels. Mirror Lake is fed by an underground tributary of the Chubb River, making the lake look as though it has no real inlet or outlet. Most of the scenery is in the distant mountains or the ring of hills in town, but there are plenty of trees along much of the shore.

Shoreline length:

There's 2.4 miles of shoreline in this 128 acre lake, with a mean depth of 14 feet. It is roughly one mile in length.

How to get there

From the intersection of Route 73 and Route 86 in Lake Placid, follow Route 86 toward Main Street in Lake Placid. Take a right at the town hall onto Mirror Lake Drive. This is a great spot to park and launch, parking is prime real estate, parking also available on Park Ave, next to the Town Beach. Both launched are located at the south end of the lake.

Type of launch

At the northeast shore there is a state DEC boat dock that is used as a carry to Lake Placid. This sliver of state/public land is roughly 100 yards in length and no more than 30 feet wide. If you use this portage please stay on designated trail. The carry will bring you to a crossing of Mirror Lake Drive to the Lake Placid boat launch and marina. Short carry of less than 100 yards.

Rent from the dock downtown with Mirror Lake Boat Rental.

Type of water

Flat with mostly calm conditions. An occasional front can cause small whitecaps.
