Gold medal fun

Not everyone can say the Olympics took place in their own backyard. We can, and we love to share that experience! Today, you can tour many of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Legacy Sites, no matter the season!

The famed Olympic Center stands out, full of history and activities. Enjoy public skating year-round, hockey tournaments, the Olympic Museum. The Olympic Center also offers historic tours of this amazing complex, including the rink of the famous "Miracle on Ice" where the United States pulled ahead of the heavily favored Soviet Union in the third period to win the game in the 1980 Winter Olympics medal round.

At the Olympic Jumping Complex, visitors are often struck by the sight of the 90 - and 120-meter ski jumps. An elevator takes you to the top, providing a birds eye view of the Adirondacks, while a new zipline can whisk you to the bottom in just a few seconds. At nearby Mt. Van Hoevenberg, the Cliffside Coaster is the longest mountain coaster in the United States! Control the speed of your ride down the mountain alongside the Olympic bobsled track and enjoy mountain views. Van Ho is also home to hiking, bobsled and luge experiences, a climbing gym, and more.

Whiteface Mountain was home to many alpine ski events; in winter, ski the same slopes as Olympians and in summer ride the gondola to the summit for golden views!

The world comes to Lake Placid

In January 2023, Lake Placid welcomed the world for the 2023 World University Games, the world's largest collegiate winter sports event. Over 10 days, events at the Legacy Sites, including Alpine skiing at Whiteface Mountain and hockey at the Olympic Center, featured world-class athletes and potential Olympians and helped to continue the exceptional sporting history of this amazing town!
