A Girls' Night Out & A Boys' Big Breakfast The fabulous Lake Placid Lodge awaits I don't get much time to myself, and really, I don't mind. But, every once in a while, when the stars align, I find myself with a free evening and no real plan. So, on a recent Friday evening, I was ready to go for the gold. I polled a couple of my co-workers and the general consensus was unanimous - drinks were in order. We decided to head to Maggie's Pub at the Lake Placid Lodge. We were looking for a relaxed atmosphere with funky drinks and delicious food. We were not disappointed. Sitting at the bar,... continue reading

Insider's Tip: Pick Owl's Head to get your novice hiker hooked! Lake Placid and the High Peaks Region is home to countless miles of hiking trails to explore and peaks to summit. But, here's the thing, and it's one of my favorite insider's tips: You don't have to spend all day climbing one of the 46 High Peaks to get a great view and soak in your fill of nature! We love hiking Owl's Head (a simple 10-15 minute drive from town), Cobble Hill (less than a mile from Main Street in Lake Placid Village), or simply walking/biking the 2.7 mile Mirror Lake paved loop. And, new to our repertoire, we... continue reading

New: Heaven Hill Trails  My 6-year-old, Oliver, and I decided to check out the new Heaven Hill Trails, and we are hooked. They are now on our weekly-outing list. Close to town with a variety of lengths to choose from, these relatively flat paths are an awesome addition to all the family-friendly activities Lake Placid has to offer! Choose your own adventure I think one of my favorite things about the Adirondacks' newest trail system is the variety of options. There are three main loops and all of the paths are relatively flat and accessible. The Big Field Loop is 0.9 mile long and... continue reading

Scenic Flight: This family's first! Blogger's Note:  Last year I had an amazing opportunity to take Oliver on his first flight. And, not only was it his first flight, it was a scenic flight on a gorgeous early-fall Adirondack day. Now that summer is upon us, I think it's time to check out the views once again! Here's a recap of what you can expect from this family-friendly adventure - don't forget to scroll through the slideshow above for more pics and views from above! Two awesome things about a Lake Placid scenic flight: First, within minutes of walking into the Adirondack Flying... continue reading

Underrated Activities When we think of the Adirondacks we often think of all the awesome outdoor activities. So, this week, we decided to focus on the more lesser-known or underrated activities that are available.  Living in the Lake Placid Region I feel like I'm pretty well-rounded: I make my way outside to enjoy nature at minimum a few days a week; I can shop on Main Street or grab dinner at one of our many restaurants whenever the mood strikes; I take in as many of the free music and cultural events as my schedule allows. I am always on the go.  And that, my friends, is exactly what... continue reading

The Secret's Out Here's the thing... I was never very good at keeping secrets. If I love something, I want everyone to know about it. I want to share the knowledge. And, while my blog today doesn't exactly give away anything that is top-secret, it does highlight 4 places that are often overlooked. So, the next time you get off exit 30 on the Northway and start the trip up scenic Route 73 toward the Lake Placid Region, keep your eyes peeled for these "secret" spots. Heck, maybe you'll even take my advice and keep the camera handy. If you do, be sure to snap some pics and post them on social... continue reading

Did You Know? As I was putting this new "Did You Know?" blog together, I didn't think there was much I would learn about Lake Placid - I mean, I've lived here for two decades! I know the important facts: there's great places to eat, fun places to shop, outstanding family-fun to be had. The Adirondacks are literally at your doorstep, and I can take a quick hike at lunchtime or a bike ride after work. What more could I possibly find out about a place that I enjoy living in every day? Nothing.  I Didn't Know... Boy, was I wrong... our town is full of history and the stories just kept... continue reading

Drawing you inside... The friendly folks at the Lake Placid Visitors Bureau are waiting to help you plan your inspirational tour of the Adirondacks. What inspires you... waterfalls, wildflowers, wildlife? We can help you find your muse.  Visit us on your way into town, and before you leave to enjoy all the shopping and dining we have to offer, take a tour of the original Olympic Center and the new Conference Center. From murals and drawings, to sculptures and photographs, our spaces feature original pieces by award-winning artists. We think you'll agree our buildings are truly a work of... continue reading

On Pins & Needles My mind is somewhat blown. I mean, you know how it is, right? You have a preconceived notion about something (in this particular case, Acupuncture), and then you find out you are pretty close to being totally wrong. Like if there were 10 parts to a puzzle, you could maybe place one; you can't even find all four corners.  Luckily, I try to remain very open-minded to new experiences. Especially ones where I think I know what I am getting into, even when that knowledge involves little needles being inserted into my very anemic skin. So, of... continue reading

Spend, spend, spend... not so much! It can be expensive to take a vacation. We know that; I know that. I'm, admittedly, thrifty - okay, call it cheap, whatever. Here's the thing... you save up for a few months (or longer) to take a great vacation, and you want to make the most of it, right? You want to stay within your budget and still have a memorable experience. I know I do. And usually I choose my destination based on what I've heard about it from friends online. It's the way of the world these days. If one of my FB friends proclaims they went on a cruise and it was super expensive, I... continue reading
