Winter becomes Summer before Spring

Last week saw historic weather records being shattered all over the North Country. After what seemed an incredibly short winter for our region, it was suddenly summer! Temperatures ranged from the 60's all the way to 80 degrees in the middle of March. Every day the sky seemed more blue than the last and every night we heard the weather forecasters report new temperature records broken by huge margins.

Lake Placid and Essex County Open for Fun this Labor Day Weekend

It is a good thing most people who choose to live in the Adirondacks are cut from a special brand of resilient cloth. This is the kind of cloth that allows us, or maybe it impels us, to take what Mother Nature dishes out, get through it, and ultimately turn it into something positive.

Paddling Harris Lake and the Hudson River

Since many years ago when I spent a day poking around the ghost town of Tahawus near Newcomb, I've felt the desire to go back to Newcomb to paddle, but have never done so. Finally, on a spur of the moment, early one Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago, my husband and I decided to strap the kayaks on the car and take off for a day of Adirondack paddling. It was a spectacular clear and hot day, perfect for paddling in the Adirondacks. Did I mention it was dead calm as well? Even more perfect!
