Music

I love the night life, and for a small town Lake Placid delivers in a big way. The views at night are just as gorgeous, and very different than they are during the day. This quaint village is buzzing with people all of the time; however, the night is when things really start to shake up. One of the best parts about partying Lake Placid style is that everything is in walking distance, so you can easily bounce around without committing your whole night to one hot spot. You also can call a cab or Uber yourself around, if that's more your style. I prefer walking because I am a multitasker, so I... continue reading

In Lake Placid, the fun doesn’t stop when the sun sets. Yes, there’s a thriving music scene here, and if you know where to look you can get in on the action. The best part is, the music isn't confined to weekends. On any given night you can walk into a bar and hear a local band tearing it up, a traveling band fresh off of an overseas tour, or a world class symphony creating a beautiful soundscape. Here are some venues to get you started, but be sure to keep your ears open while you're in Lake Placid — you never know what you'll come across! Zig Zags Pub This bar has a local feel, and it’s... continue reading

'Tis the season It’s been getting fairly cold lately, but that’s okay with me — because it’s a sign that the holidays are just around the corner. This will be my first holiday season spent in Lake Placid, filled with family, friends, and a bunch of holiday adventures. I’m really looking forward to it! I’ve been researching all the options of things to do — and there’s a lot to choose from. My out-of-town family members have already checked out the rental houses in town, and are planning to join me for a week of fun right at the beginning of December. So far my list of must-do activities... continue reading

Hi there! My name is Nibbler. I'm psyched because today, I get to invent my own purrrrrrfect day in Lake Placid, one of my favorite places on earth!  1. The lake  I'm starting my day with a morning paddle, and there's plenty of places to do it in and around Lake Placid! There's nothing like getting on the lake to forget your troubles and find your zen. And while I'm at it, I'm going to catch a fish or two to munch on. 2. MTB Next I'll head to the trails to shred some singletrack. I'm just going to take a little break under here while this dude catches some air.  3. Vino What a fun... continue reading

If you like beer like I do, you’re going to love October in the Adirondacks! Between Oktoberfest, Oktupperfest and the annual Lake Placid Brewfest, it’s a beer-lover’s paradise! Living in Denver for the past couple of years, I got very used to the microbrewery scene. Everywhere you turned, both in the city and in the suburbs, there was another craft brewery opening, and personally I like these beers so much better than the typical light beer that is mass produced and available everywhere. Here in the Adirondacks, I was happy to find that my new home has more than just a couple of... continue reading

Embedded thumbnail for Summertime Blues... you won't want to miss this June
Shhh... Don't Tell Anyone  Except for maybe all your friends - you will want to bring them! Now is a great time to plan a Lake Placid getaway. It’s still a few weeks before the summer season officially begins, but spring has sprung and people are out boating, hiking, biking, and riding motorcycles, there are so many things to do here. If you’re a music fan, kicking off Lake Placid’s summer season is the Blues & Heritage Music Festival, June 19-21. This may be the first time you’ve heard of this festival, but don’t let that be a deterrent as this is only the 2nd year of this intimate... continue reading

Spend, spend, spend... not so much! It can be expensive to take a vacation. We know that; I know that. I'm, admittedly, thrifty - okay, call it cheap, whatever. Here's the thing... you save up for a few months (or longer) to take a great vacation, and you want to make the most of it, right? You want to stay within your budget and still have a memorable experience. I know I do. And usually I choose my destination based on what I've heard about it from friends online. It's the way of the world these days. If one of my FB friends proclaims they went on a cruise and it was super expensive, I... continue reading
