Hold onto your hats folks! July is about to explode with events in Lake Placid, as it does every year. This year's events lineup will not disappoint, once again.

World class equestrian show jumping

The Lake Placid Horse Show has kicked off already and will run through Sunday, June 29. Following this show, next up are the I Love New York Horse Show from July 1 - 6 and the newly added third week, Adirondack Horse Show, July 8 - 13. With the first two weeks sold out for entries, this premier show jumping event of the year should prove to be just as exciting as ever. Nearly 1,000 horses have been transported to their temporary homes at the Lake Placid Show Grounds for the event our exhibitors have come to love over the last 30+ years. The setting is spectacular, located under the shadows of Whiteface Mountain and the Olympic Jumping Complex. Spectators are encouraged to take in the competition and also tour the stables at scheduled times during the show. This "back stage" tour is a fascinating look into the luxurious homes away from home for these magnificent and very pampered steeds. Don't miss it. Visit our Horse Show page for more information.

July 4th weekend

Fourth of July weekend in Lake Placid is chock full of events to entertain you and some that you can participate in!

The 9th Annual I Love BBQ Festival returns to the Lake Placid Speedskating Oval Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 4-6. The aromas from the pit bosses will once again waft from the Oval as smokers transform raw meats into BBQ delicacies and a large contingent of regional bands entertain from 2 - 9 pm Saturday and from 1:30 - 4 pm Sunday. With much, much more planned for this event, check out the complete schedule for ILBBQ and Music Fest.

4th of July weekend wouldn't be complete without our ever-popular July 4th Parade at 5 pm on Friday. The parade route begins at the Olympic Center on Main Street and ends at the intersection of Main Street and Saranac Avenue. Our parade seems to grow a little each year, and once again this year the Governeur Wildcats Marching Band will entertain us, along with floats, marching units, local groups and civic organizations and businesses, along with all the regional volunteer fire departments. Always a lot of fun on Main Street. And we also have a great surprise this year - Brianna Colicchio, an extremely talented 8 year old a cappella singer from Rochester, NY, will sing the National Anthem during the parade. Don't miss this - she's incredible! If you have a group that would like to be in the parade, call the Lake Placid Visitors Bureau. Any and all are welcome to participate!

Now in its third decade, Lake Placid's Set the Night to Music Fireworks Spectacular will light up the skies over Mirror Lake at 9:15 pm on Friday, July 4th. With a musical soundtrack broadcast live by WSLP 93.3 FM, you can bring your radios and tune in to listen along with the show. The soundtrack will also be broadcast at the Public Beach and at Mid's Park during the fireworks if you don't have your radio. This popular event annually draws several thousand people, so get there early and grab a spot on the shore of Mirror Lake. Make sure to watch the video above and you'll see why this fireworks spectacle draws such a big crowd!

World class paddling

On Sunday and Monday, July 6th and 7th, US Canoe and Kayak Federation sponsors the Lake Placid Regatta, an international paddling event on Mirror Lake. From early morning til late afternoon you can catch the paddling action and check out the magnificent and colorful boats lining the shores of the Lake Placid Public Beach. This annual event attracts some of the best paddlers in the World, so be sure not to miss it!
