For fly fishers, these films are considered X-rated.

Big fish. In remote destinations and exotic locations. On the fly. With the camera rolling.

Fly fishermen – and women – simply call it "fish porn." And when it's mid-March and winter still has a firm grip on your favorite waters, there's only one thing better than doing it.

Watching it being done.

That's why the Fly Fishing Film Tour – F3T for short – is coming back by popular demand to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts again this year, set for March 23 at 7 p.m.

It's a time for fly fishers to gather, talk excitedly about the upcoming season, take a chance or two at one of the many raffles at the event, and watch some of the finest fly-fishing short films made.

The event is sponsored again this year by the Tri-Lakes Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and all proceeds from the show will benefit the organization's many environmental and conservation projects.

All in all, it's a great night out as we await the arrival of spring.

This year, the focal point of the films featured is adventure, whether that adventure be halfway around the world or right in your own backyard.

"We approached this year with the attitude that adventure is what you make it," says F3T co-owner Chris Keig. "Sometimes the greatest adventure can be found in your own backyard ot an urban corridor. So that's why in addition to our usual assortment of fascinating destinations like Thailand, Bolivia and Georgia (the country), we've also got great segments from Washington, D.C., the Midwest, the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountains."

Another theme is diversity. It's not just a trout show, for sure.

"The number of different species we've got this year is too long to list," Keig says. "From steelhead to snakehead, bonefish to bass, trout to triggerfish. It's an awesome assortment of fish."

F3T makes over 100 stops across the U.S. and Canada every year, and Lake Placid is proud to be a part of the circuit again in 2013.

Tickets ($12) are available locally in advance at Wiley's Flies in Rainbow Lake (518-891-1829) and Blue Line Sport Shop in Saranac Lake (518-891-4680). They are also available through F3T online for $12 and at the door on the night of the event for $15.
