As we head into 'the season', the list of spring, summer and fall events is growing by the minute. From sports to arts to festivals and more, there will be a plethora of events both big and small to fill your schedule as full as you wish from now until the snow flies again next fall. I wasn't going to add that line "again next fall", but since it's snowing right now, well, you see the problem with that sentence.

Saranac Lake starts it off on our major events calendar with Daffest, happening April 29 - May 13. Blooming Daffodils all over town are the backdrop for fun events, art happenings and more. For the sport fly fishers, the Ausable River Two-fly Challenge pits man against fish in this 13th annual event held in Wilmington, during which your choice of only two flies are allowed all weekend.

As we head into June, sporting events galore fill the calendar starting with the 8th Annual Lake Placid Marathon and Half on June 10th and The Wilmington/Whiteface Bike Fest June 15 - 17, which, in addition to lots of other activities, includes the WW100 and the 11th Annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race. On the 26th of June for two weeks, the Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows return for their 43rd season of show jumping extraordinaire.

With summer in full swing, we'll be entertained June 29 - July 1 with the increasingly popular I Love BBQ and Music Festival in the center of town at the Olympic Speedskating Oval. The ILBBQ Fest precedes Lake Placid's Independence Day celebration with the annual Main Street parade and colossal fireworks show, Set the Night to Music, held traditionally on July 4th itself. On July 22 we are once again host to Ironman Lake Placid. The amazing Ironman event is now in its 13th year. At the end of the month Can-Am Rugby also returns to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake for exciting action on multiple playing fields July 27-29, followed closely by the ever-growing Summit Lacrosse Tournament July 30 - August 5. Our Summit Lacrosse tournament has grown to become the largest tournament in North America.

The activity in August keeps up a hectic pace filled with too-numerous-to-list county-wide fine arts events and performances as well as the Essex County Agricultural Fair in Westport.

Wilmington's famous fall events return again this year as well, starting off with Festival of the Colors on September 8 and followed up by Whiteface Mountain Uphill Foot Race on September 22 and Oktoberfest at Whiteface Mountain Ski Center on September 29 - 30.
